How you spend your morning pretty much dictates how your day pans out. As Eleanor Roosevelt said “With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.”. The key to making the most out of your day is having a few morning routines that work for you and bring the best out of you.

I’ve already written about the importance of having a routine and how it can change your life. Here are just a few ways:

In this article, I’m sharing a few morning routines that will increase your productivity during the day. If you don’t consider yourself a morning person, it can simply mean that you don’t have a morning routine that makes you look forward to getting up in the morning. Following this list of morning routines will change the way you think about the beginning of your day.

Wake up early

It`s important to give your mind and body a chance to get into a routine. Set a time that you want to wake up at (challenge yourself!) and stick to that. This will ensure your mind and body get into optimum mode sooner over a long period of time. There are much more benefits of waking up early, such as better concentration, increased problem-solving abilities or becoming more positive.

If you’re having trouble with waking up early, read this great guide that can help you with it.

Make your bed

The importance of this 1-minute job is often overseen, so here`s a short part of a powerful speech by Navy Seal Admiral McRaven that explains everything:

“If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and will encourage you to do another task. And then another, and then another. And by the end of the day, that one task completed will turn into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you’ll never be able to do the big things right. And if, by chance, you’ll have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made. That you made.”

Create a morning routine with your family or spend time with yourself

Most successful people tend to include their ‘me-time’ in their morning routines. For some, that means spending time with their family and for others spending time alone. In either way, with a clear and fresh mind, this is a great time to be yourself and enjoy the moment.

Plan your day

Getting into work mode directly may often leave you with a cluttered mind. You’d be struggling to determine what task needs to be accomplished first and what could be left for later. Your mind functions at it’s optimum early on in the day. You process information quicker as you start off with a clean slate and hence make better and more informed decisions. So it’s better you plan your day in the morning and get your priorities right. This would save a lot of time and help you channelize your efforts in the right direction. Once you make it a habit to have this morning routine, it will be a 2-minute job.

Take care of your body

A fit body is as important as a fit mind to boost your productivity. So exercise or meditate or do whatever gets your juices flowing to keep your body and mind fit and active. If you do it every day, it doesn’t have to be longer than 15 minutes.

It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, it’s what we do consistently. Though this list is not exhaustive, make sure you incorporate at least these morning routines in your daily schedule to have a great day, day-in day-out.
