How to Get More Done in Less Time

The last month has been really difficult. My motivation to do things is so low and I am working hard to improve this so that the next few weeks will be easier and more will be able to get done. I know that some of you are also struggling with finding the motivation and ways to get more done.

How Do I Get Motivated Every Day?

Do you find yourself struggling to get things done every day? You don’t have the energy or the motivation to get things done around the house, to workout, to do your work, etc.

Sometimes this lack of motivation can be caused by stress or depression. Sometimes you can’t get motivated because you are not in good health or you don’t have good systems set up to be productive.

Luckily there are things you can do to improve your motivation and to begin getting more done. It might seem impossible but take it from a recovering procrastinator you can get more done and find your motivation.

10 Ways to get more done every day

Review your goals first thing in the morning and pick one thing.

If you want to get more done then it really helps to be focused. So taking the time to review your goals and pick one thing that you can work towards can help you to feel more motivated and focused on what you are trying to get accomplished.

While we would love to be able to work on all of our goals doing that all at once is not possible and trying to will just split your focus. So focus on the one goal that will move you forward towards where you want to be.

Make a to-do List

If you are looking for the best ways to get more done and you aren’t making a to-do list then you need to start now. I begin everyday with a to-do list of what I want to get done that day.

Just the simple task of making a list can help you to know exactly what you need to get done so you can focus on getting things done instead of just trying to fill your hours with busy tasks.

You daily to dos should move you forward towards your weekly, monthly and yearly goals. The act of doing these little daily tasks

Prioritize What’s important

Once you have a to-do list and know your goals it’s time to prioritize what really matters and focus on that instead of trying to do it all.

It’s helpful to go over your to-dos and mark things A B and C tasks. A being must do’s, B being should do and C being if you have time leftover.

Then you will know what you should be working on that will be the most beneficial to your day and make the most of your time.

Ask for help in being accountable

One of the things I have found to be so helpful in motivating me to get more done is to make myself accountable to someone. I’m not the only one who slacks off if I only answer to myself am I? I don’t think so.

We do better when we know others are counting on us or if we have to check in with someone and share our progress.

If you want a cleaner house knowing you have company tomorrow night will get your butt in gear and get you cleaning. If you want to make running a priority and habit setting up a morning run with your friend that you need to show up for will make you more likely to do it.

Create better Habits

Having good habits sets you up for success and helps you to not only get more done but remember to do the things that matter.

So much of what you do in a day is automatic and done because of habits. So making sure to setup good habits that lead to your improved productivity.

Setting habits is a skill whether you want to create new good habits or break old bad ones. It’s a matter of making things you want to do natural and easy so that you are more likely to do them.

If you want to break a bad habit it’s about making that habit more challenging so you are more likely to not do that habit anymore. I will be posting more on how to build and break habits in an upcoming post.

Set up routines

Like with building habits to improve your productivity and motivation setting up routines is another great way to get more done and make life easier.

If you make a successful morning routine it will set you up for success throughout the day. I still need to make a better evening routine instead of just watching TV and staying up too late.

Take care of your health

This is my favorite tip on the list and one that I work so hard on. I had major health issues years ago and still suffer from anxiety and depression. If I don’t make my health a priority my productivity and time management suffer a lot.

I’m sure many of you are less productive than you could be because you are not getting the proper nutrition, enough water and taking care of your health.

It may not seem like it’s that important but it will make you more energetic and sharpen your mind which will help you be more productive and is a great way to get more done.

Get enough rest

This goes along with taking care of your health. It is so important to not only take care of your health but also get enough rest. If you aren’t well rested you will not get as much done.

So many people skip getting enough sleep thinking they will get more done by either staying up late or waking up really early to stretch their hours to get things done. The problem with that is although you may have more hours you won’t be operating at your best.

You may have more hours but you will be working with less energy and your brain working a little slower. So the work you are doing will not be as great. It would be much better to be well rested and be able to do your best work in the time you have. More rest is one of the best ways to get more done that you might be missing.

Reward Yourself

This technique is one used for children but it also really works well for us adults too! If you want to be more productive and get more done than make an effort to reward yourself for the work that you do.

So if you want to motivate yourself to clean the kitchen maybe tell yourself that once the kitchen is done you can watch Netflix for an hour. If you need to finish a work project tell yourself once you are done you will go get an iced coffee.

Limit Distractions

If you are looking for ways to get more done you will definintly want to start limiting distractions. To often we feel like we are busy but in reality we are spending a lot of time on things that are really just distractions like Facebook or playing on our phones.

If you need to get something done and distractions are a problem try putting your phone in another room so you won’t be as tempted to look at it when you should be working or getting something done.
